1/10/2008Carla Appleman-Moniz awarded Florida Bar President's Pro Bono Service AwardThe Florida Bar awarded Carla Appleman-Moniz its President's Pro Bono Service Award for 2007. Appleman-Moniz will be honored at a ceremony at the Florida Supreme Court on January 31st, along with the award winners from the other judicial circuits across the state. The Florida Bar stated that "Ms. Appleman-Moniz has contributed a significant number of pro bono hours providing legal assistance to individuals needing help with real estate planning and probate as well as general areas of law. She has also provided assistance to at least three local churches in clearing titles, purchase and sale of real estate and other legal matters relating to church business. In 2007, she served as chair of the First Saturday Legal Clinic. This required several hours each month to arrange for attorneys to attend the clinic and assist her in providing legal services to the people seeking help from the clinic, as well as compiling reports on the results of those clinics." 1/7/2008R. Jackson elected Chair of 14th Judicial Circuit Nominating CommissionToday, the 14th Judicial Nominating Commission elected Rob Jackson as its Chair. Jackson served as the Vice Chair in 2006 and 2007. The Commission is meeting to consider nominations for a circuit judge opening due to the resignation of Judge Glenn Hess. 8/10/2007D. Sale named one of Florida's Legal EliteFlorida Trend, the magazine of Florida business, named Doug Sale as one of Florida's Legal Elite in its July issue. Sale is one of only twenty-one government and administrative law lawyers statewide to receive the honor. Sale leads the firm's local government practice group and was also named Municipal Attorney of the Year by the Florida Municipal Attorney's Association in 1999. Florida Trend's Legal Elite is one of the preeminent referral guides to the legal profession in the state. Members of the Florida Bar nominate attorneys for the award, then an independent research firm and a panel of prominent lawyers make the final selections. The Legal Elite encompasses only the top two percent of practicing attorneys in Florida.

4/3/2007K. Obos named Springfield City AttorneyThe City of Springfield, Florida today named Kevin Obos as their City Attorney. Kevin joins HSMTD attorneys Doug Sale, Mike Duncan, and Rob Jackson who serve as City Attorneys for the cities of Panama City Beach, Callaway, and Lynn Haven respectfully.
10/15/2006M. Duncan named NWFL Transportation Corridor Authority AttorneyThe Northwest Florida Transportation Corridor Authority selected HSMTD as their general counsel. Mike Duncan will serve as the Corridor Authority Attorney. The NWFL Transportation Corridor Authority is a recently created state agency that is examining transportation infrastructure improvements from Pensacola to Tallahassee.
9/30/2006Three attorneys hiredHSMTD welcomed three new attorneys this summer, part of our expansion to care for our clients' needs. We are proud to announce that Nick Beninate, Robert Fleming, and Bridget Groom joined the firm as associates. Nick recently graduated form the University of Florida Law School and will be primarily practicing in our local government department. Robert Fleming moved from Tallahassee, after a few years with another firm. Bridget Groom join us after graduating from the University of Florida Law School earlier in the year.
7/9/2006R. Jackson appointed to JNCFlorida Governor Jeb Bush appointed HSMTD Attorney Robert Jackson to be a member of the 14th Judicial Nomination Commission ("JNC"). The JNC interviews and nominates judicial candidates when a vacancy becomes available. Mr. Jackson was elected Vice-Chair of the 14th Judicial JNC.
4/15/2006M. Duncan named Airport Authority counselToday, the Panama City-Bay County Airport Authority named HSMTD as its general counsel. Mike Duncan will serve as the Airport Authority Attorney. The Airport Authority is currently exploring building a new regional airport in North Bay County to serve Northwest Florida.
